Support Groups and Seminars

Mid-life Widowhood Support Group

WRTC invites those who have lost a significant other to a semi-monthly support group focused on those 60 and under years of age whose loved one has died in the last two years.  Meeting times are the first and third Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in our offices located in Annadale, VA.  It is important to register in advance.  Call 703-641-0100 or Email lisa@wrtc.org, or maureen@wrtc.org.

Faciliator Robin L. McMahon, Ph.D., a local grief therapist and author, says that "While there are many wonderful support groups in the Washington area, WRTC's Widowhood Support Group addresses the unique needs of under 60 spouses who are adjusting to the unexpected and untimely death of their partners.  Widowhood can be such an isolating experience, particularly when most of your friends will not experience this loss for decades and cannot begin to comprehend what you are feeling."

What a group member has to say:

"It's a safe, confidential place to meet with others who have lost their spouse or significant other, who are walking in the same shoes that I am and who will listen, comfort and support each other without judgment."           Linda, Zack's wife

Fragile

A glorious summer day dawns.
 Beautiful, delightful
He left home to ride…
 Happy, joyful
He expected to return…
 Books unread, work unfinished
An accident with another rider…
 Tragic, fatal
Life is fragile…
 Surprising, unpredictable
He loved life…
 Historian, Enthusiast
He loved his family..,
 Wife, daughter
He influenced so many…
 Family, friends, co-workers
He practiced his faith…
 Believing, Grace
He gave life…
 Two kidneys, a liver
He taught us so much…
 Be happy, God loves us.
Appreciate your life and those around you as he did.
Live life to the fullest each day.

Dedicated to Paul Rossmeissl from his loving wife, Hedy
