How to participate

Honoring Your Loved One in a Remembrance Quilt

You do not need to be exceptionally artistic to contribute! Even the craft challenged or uncreative person can create a square that will be meaningful and special. Here are some helpful suggestions--give it a try!

  • WRTC would be happy to provide you with a square of material, however pieces of favorite material worn by loved ones are often used.
  • If you use your own fabric, you will cut a 10"x10" square piece of fabric. Leave a one inch border on all four sides for the quilter to use in attaching to other squares.
  • Photographs, computer art, silk-screens can be screened on cotton fabric. Cotton lining fabric works best.
  • Techniques you might use include applique, cross stich, embroidery, needlepoint, sewing, painting silkscreening photos.
  • Feel free to include the name of your loved one, any significant dates or events, poems, quotations or anything else that helps you express your thoughts.
  • We recommend you send your patch by certified mail. In the event it does not reach us, a tracking system is helpful.

The quilts are an ongoing project. Squares can be submitted at any time during the year, or they may be pinned to the next year's quilt during the Donor Family Gathering. You are welcome to stop by WRTC's office to view the quilts. Be sure to call ahead to ensure they are in the offices, rather than on display in the community. Call WRTC's Donor Family Advocates at 1-866-BeA-Donor for more information.
