Donation Resource Specialist Training

DRS - 150Need Continuing Education Credits This Year? WRTC Can Help!

The WRTC Hospital Services & Professional Education Department offers a day-long program designed to educate physicians, fellows, residents, nurses and social workers on best practices in the organ, eye and tissue donation process. In this program, we provide an opportunity for registrants to connect to purpose by hearing from a donor family member, an organ recipient and a tissue recipient. Topics include clinical triggers for referral, how medical suitability is established, donation best practices and how to plan together for an optimal family discussion about donation.

The class is offered throughout the year at various locations including our office in Falls Church and area hospitals. Since 2015, when the program established a regular schedule and set locations, WRTC has educated more than 1,200 local nurses. Those who attend receive a Donation Resource Specialist pin to wear on their badge and become a resource, and champion, for donation on their units.

The training is offered free of charge and provides 7.5 CEs for RNs, MDs and Social Work. To register click here.

Beginning in 2018, a DRS II program was launched to provide 1 ½ hour classes on specific aspects of the donation process. The first class was held at our offices on February 20th and focused on respiratory management of the potential lung donor. Other topics are being planned and scheduled for the rest of the year. This course provides 1.5 CEs.
