The Islamic Faith and Organ Donation
The religion of Islam strongly believes in the principle of saving human lives. According to A. Sachedina in his Transplant Proceedings article, “Islamic Views on Organ Transplantation,” “the majority of the Muslim scholars belonging to various schools of Islamic law have invoked the principle of priority of saving human life and have permitted the organ transplant as a necessity to procure that noble end.”
There are many myths about organ donation among those of the Muslim faith. Imam Johari AbdulMalik, Director of Outreach at Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center and the Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) are working together on a first-of-its-kind outreach and education campaign.
Together We are working to inform followers of Islam about this extremely important health and social issue.
