WUSA9 shares the story of tissue recipient Leigh Webb and donor mother Geri Ginsberg.
Austin Ginsberg was just 30 years old when he died in a car accident in 2017. Austin donated his heart and both kidneys. In addition, he donated tissues, which were used to enhance hundreds of lives, including the life of Leigh Webb.
Leigh suffers from polycystic kidney disease and liver disease. She received four bone grafts, including one from Austin, use in two separate surgeries to replace her bone that was destroyed by a non-cancerous tumor. Before her surgeries, she was unable to walk and care for her two children. In the future, Leigh will likely need a liver and kidney transplant.
